Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks awarded EGS the landing site visits, inshore survey and offshore geophysical survey of the Seychelles East African Submarine cable system linking Port Victoria in the Seychelles to Dar es Salam in Tanzania . The SEAS system is the first fiber optic telecommunication cable linking the Seychelles with the rest of the world.

(Seychelles)

EGS carried out the landing site visits at both ends of the cable in January 2011 to validate the sites and followed with inshore surveys in early February 2011. EGS's dedicated deepwater survey vessel, the RV EGS Explorer , arrived in Port Victoria in mid-February to carry out the 2,000km long cable route survey between the Seychelles and Tanzania . The RV EGS Explorer is equipped with state of the art survey equipment to ensure that high resolution data is acquired in order to minimize any risks duration installation of the subsea plant or during its 25 years lifetime. A full armed security team was mobilized onboard the research vessel to protect the crew from potential pirate attacks. The survey was successfully completed by the end of February 2011.

Success in the “Caribbean”
Stuart, Florida, USA: EGS recently completed two cable route surveys in the Caribbean. The first project, ALBA-1 was awarded by Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks and comprised links to Venezuela, Cuba and Jamaica. The survey was completed in July 2010. The second project, East-West Cable System was awarded by France Telecom Marine and completed in September 2010. It comprised links between Jamaica, Dominican Republic and the British Virgin Islands. Both projects were successfully completed by the RV Ridley Thomas before the start of hurricane season, and supported by our new EGS Americas project team out of Florida.

EGS break new ground in Timor Leste
Dili, Timor Leste:
EGS Asia with support from both PTEGS and EGS Geotechnical, have successfully completed one of the most challenging projects in recent times. The task was to carry out an initial bathymetric, geophysical and geotechnical inshore survey for 3 port locations along the remote, southern coastline of Timor Leste.
With local land logistics support from their client, Toke Oil and Gas SA, EGS had to mobilise their inshore vessels, survey equipment, jack up barges and land drilling rigs from overseas and manage a self contained, stand alone survey mission for 60 days. EGS Geotechnical, Technical Director Jeff James commented: ”to arrive in these unspoilt locations, with virtually no land transport and carry out 3 detailed surveys in such challenging circumstances, is a testament to the character, commitment and professional excellence of the whole Toke - EGS team. We are delighted to have provided the first series of quality land and marine survey data for the future infrastructure plans of the Government of Timor Leste."

RV Northern Endeavour

In July 2011, EGS added the RV Northern Endeavour to the existing offshore fleet in order to meet the demanding deadlines of the ongoing cable route survey projects. The vessel was mobilized to carry out survey in the mid-water range utilizing a full geophysical survey spread including a Kongsberg EM302 multibeam echo sounding system. In addition to the EM302 transducer, the mobilization of all hull mounted equipment including a 4 x 4 pinger was completed in a tight 12 days dry dock period allowed. The dimensional survey of the EM302 transducer and its auxiliary survey sensor including a Seapath 320+ system was also completed during this period.

MV Northern Endeavour is chartered until Q2 next year for ongoing survey work in the Middle East

In addition, EGS continues its strategy of acquiring leading edge technology with the recently installed Kongsberg EM710 onboard the RV EGS Surveyor and the installation of a Kongsberg EM122 full ocean depth system and Reson Seabat 7101 onboard the RV Ridley Thomas in January 2012. Furthermore, EGS International is due to take delivery this month of Kongsberg’s’ latest multi beam system, the EM2040. This state-of-the-art, high resolution, 0.5 by 1 degree system which operates between 200 - 400 kHz and in water depths of 0.5m to 500m will add to the extensive pool of multi beam systems already utilised around the EGS group.

2. EGS subsidiary – “ C products” continues upgrade success
Following trials earlier this year C-Products completed an order for a complete C-Boom system including C-Phone MEH to UK Rental Company GSE Rentals. The unit was shipped off to West Africa where it spent 120 days acquiring data; Alan Cameron at GSE said that he is extremely pleased with the mobility and the performance of the system.
Currently C-Products is working on the development of a new multi element hydrophone to add to its range, the unit will provide both analogue and digital outputs and be user configurable to provide data from either 4, 8 or all 12 elements, it will be on show at OI London2012.
